Depends on the level of an event. I'm sort of assuming this is either NRV or the IRC thing. If it's the IRC thing, it's a good idea but not something that will cause OOC damage if cancelled...no real cost to it. If it's NRV, then it changes the evaluation because of plane fare, hotels, etc etc.

In the first, shrug and walk it off. In the second, in my mind it would be time for mediation with the other side because of time, expense, etc. Part of being a responsible player is to not tank things people are shelling money out for.

NRV is fine. IRC event, who knows. But it's not really specifically about that, and more that I'm seeking to hear people's thoughts on strategies for maintaining motivation to play when the deck gets consistently stacked against you IC. It's lame to just quit playing, but there is a road that has to be navigated in figuring out what kind of RP is fun for you, and how to pursue it. There are situations I've never had to deal with as player before, so I'm just casting around for other perspectives.

Drop it in the other player's lap IC.

If they blocked it IC, then give them some IC repercussions.

Then leave it to their character to make an event, and then your character is justified to sabotage it in some way while it is happening, even if it's only IC saying "if my event had run, it would have been soooo much better because..."

If you paid for event space or something and now have to back out, that's a really crummy thing for them to have done from an OOC perspective (if they knew you put money down).

Frankly, it's very difficult not to keep it from upsetting you OOC. You might want to have a mediated discussion.

No one is upset, actually. The in game stuff is the in game stuff. I'm more interested in the motivations factor: how do you prevent these things from being de-motivating OOCly?

Losing motivation to have fun in game isn't upsetting?

Maybe we have different ideas about this, but I find losing interest in activities I once enjoyed upsetting.

I won't put my thoughts here. But feel free to call if you like.

Maybe try and find another host icly so at least the OOC work isn't lost? I'm less concerned about the IC side but volunteering and putting OOC work into something can be upsetting if that work is then just tossed, particularly if this was a manuever or out of the blue.

For the IRC scene, I don't think it's so much a matter of it being blocked, as it is a matter of timing - and some PCs wanting to pushing things ahead and get them settled as soon as possible.

It's odd, really... cuz I think both PCs involved in pushing for it to happen and pushing for it to happen faster (making the event change or become less relevant) are really pushing for the same thing.

Hit me up privately (or even ICly) and I'll explain more :)

I probably will talk to you, but again, this isn't about this one particular event, and more about a strategy for coping with this situation on an out-of-character level, regardless of who it involves or what the IC reasons are or whether it's my event or not.

Don't play a PC who plans events or cares about social PvP. That's the only guraranteed solution.
