Food for Thought: Most days I eat lunch at my desk in front of my computer. I either continue work, read emails, or do some personal web surfing. Today for a change of pace I took my lunch outside and for a glorious 30 minutes I read a chapter of Asimov's Second Foundation, ate my lunch, and enjoyed the perfect 72 degree weather. I definitely need to take more lunch breaks. I feel so much more refreshed this afternoon! It is amazing what a little change of scene can do for your sense of well-being.
New Judo: Last night I attended my first meeting of the Arlington Judo Club at our new location in Clarendon. My feelings are mixed. We moved from the Barcroft Rec Center where we used the springy, carpeted gymnastics floor routine area of the large, airy gymnastics room. The new location is wall-to-wall high-quality judo mats but the room is about 80% of the size in a converted community center in Clarendon. The new place is nice because it is wholly ours and we have nice mats. But I do miss the wide-open feel of the old location. I'm sure I'll get used to it but it may take a little while.
Muse: As of late I've been listening to Muse a quite a bit. Now that I know them, I wish I had gone to their concert with My Chemical Romance at WM. At the time I was only vaguely aware of either band. But now I am a fan of both. At the moment I am craving songs with a soaring, epic-rock feel. Like the song "Knights of Cydonia" or the new Protomen demo "
Breaking Out." Would that style count as "heavy metal"? I tried to create a Pandora station with mixed results. If any readers have suggested bands or songs, please let me know.
History in the Making: Speaking of epic... we've had some pretty major headlines in the last week of financial news. I have a feeling that students will look back on this month with great scrutiny in the economics classes of the coming decades. At least oil prices are going down, that's some good news in the midst of all the historic first use of emergency govt financial powers since the freaking Great Depression. The next few months are going to be interesting.
