Rockband Live at Harbor Yard 10/28/08

Last night's (10/28) Rockband concert at Bridgeport's Harbor Yard was ok. Just ok. In paled in comparison to the 2008 HCT at Oakdale. Of course there were different bands with PATD and a different sponsorship, I felt the performances rushed and scripted (except for Dashboard Confessional).

Maybe the arena was too big or there simply wasn't a large enough turn out. Maybe it really wasn't a concert at all but a pitch for the game. Whatever it was, the energy was obviously missing.

Although the quality of music was excellent, most of the performers appeared to be going through the motions. What do expect from these guys with their non-stop Rock Band Live performances and side shows on their days off? The tour's frantic pace seems to be taking its toll on them and it shows.

The arena was about 1/3 full with $35.00 GA ticket holders sneaking past the guards and sitting in seats that were at least $70-100 each. The seat switching and shuffling were very annoying and disruptive. I missed almost the entire CAB set because 4 girls in front of me decided to stand and jump around in seats that obviously were not theirs. Halfway through the guard told them to sit down or get out.

Surprisingly, the pit area wasn't jam packed and people swayed in place or milled about. When PATD's set began, everyone rushed to the front. The rest of the floor was now clear and exposed those who were leaving, either for lack of interest or to beat the traffic (there was very little). I just hope the boys didn't see the mass exodus.

No matter how rushed the sets were, I enjoyed the music. The CAB was excellent as usual, the PWT's were a pleasant surprise this time around, Chris's banter with the audience and his 85 family members was entertaining, and of course Ryan's enthusiastic monotone was as expected. The rest of PATD were in fine form even though Brendon seemed to have a cold. My favorite numbers were "When the Day met the Night and the high voltage "Shout."

All in all, it turned out to be a pleasant evening. Next time I will won't raise my expectations as high as I did for the HCT tour(s). It's all about the music after all.
