2011 Goals - done differently than last year

Jan 04, 2011 10:54

So last year I started off with good intent and then when March rolled around I kind of got distracted due to the whole having a baby thing. I thought about the format I used and what I had hoped for and realised that although my goals for the year were not too far fetched or crazy, it was still quite open ended. It left each month up in the air as ( Read more... )

Re Crocheting A couple of years ago my sister gave me The Crochet Answer Book: Solutions to Every Problem you will ever face and Answers to Every Question you will ever ask.
edit: I forgot to give the author. The author is Edie Eckman
I highly recommend the book. It is awesome and I self taught myself to do the stitches from it. I still struggle to follow a pattern, but I haven't dedicated much time to that. Blankets and dish cloths and scarfs don't need much crazy detail or patterning to complete.
Also you can pretty much you tube for videos on most things (especially done this on the knitting end).

Thank you!

I will definitely look into that book. I think my list of books for this year is starting to grow :) I'd already started one with mostly cook books on it but this will be added.

This sounds like more than enough to start.

The meal planning is actually pretty easy once you've started. When you've done a few weeks, the planning time decreases because you know what you have and what you'll need.

As to crochet, the Lion Brand site has good tutorials, and some very nice, free patterns. http://www.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/faq-search.cgi?store=/stores/eyarn&learnToCrochet=1

For crochet hooks, I bought a basic set from Zellers (H. Kidd, I believe they're called) for about $13, and it contains all the standard sizes you'd need (unless you want to use thread, in which case you need smaller hooks.) You can get fancier hooks - I haven't tried some of the ergonomic ones - but these are easy to use, and inexpensive.

Yay! Thank you :)

I had a feeling there would be friends out there that knew where I could go for crochet tips. I'm looking forward to checking out the site and will look at Zeller's the next time I'm out.

As for meal planning, I know once I get going it won't be that difficult. I have quite a bit in my pantry and freezer and it's just a matter of building a menu.
