I've had that happen when I try to comment on posts. LJ just decides that it's time to commit and that's that, then I have to edit the comment.

The system is buggie. It isn't you.

I haven't encountered this yet, but you might wish to look into a desktop client (I use asLJ on my Mac, which can also be set up for Dreamwidth). I like the ability to compose offline, and to save half-written posts for later.
