Tumblr and fandom and...

So I picked up a tumblr account because certain fandoms seem to exist more/better/worse/whatever on tumblr (or at least, it appears that way). I could suggest that it was mashups and music that took me off to read Pitch Perfect fic ( ( Read more... )

Are the fics on tumblr just scattered around or is there some kind of community type thing where you can stumble on the mother-load? Tumblr still baffles me a little.

They are pretty scattered unless there's a tumblr account that is dedicated to say... aggregating the links (and there are those as well). I've found that using the hashtags has helped because you can globally track the tag i.e., #fanfiction or #doctor who or whatever...

I have tended to use tumblr as more notification than actual reading space -- many of the accounts that I'm tracking or following or whatever the correct terminology is, if they post elsewhere (i.e., to FFN or AO3), they'll also make a post to tumblr and that shows up (to me) as a notification. Tumblr is more or beyond LJ I guess, you can't prevent anyone from following you/your blog and there's probably a lot less privacy than other platforms, but then again, the strength of tumblr is the reblogging aspect - at one glance, you can tell how popular/widespread something is - i.e., how many people have "liked" said post etc etc.
