Bamboo floors + dogs?

We are considering installing bamboo flooring in our house, but are a little concerned about our lovable 80lb pooch, who frequently likes to come to a skidding stop when tearing around the house. (God bless him.)

I've heard mixed reviews on bamboo flooring; everything from "it's really durable" to "OMG if you walk on it with shoes, you'll damage it ( Read more... )

We had the same issues... we could never seem to get a straight answer about bamboo. We finally went with a wood that is pretty high on the hardness scale, where bamboo doesn't really rank very well.

Even with having a really hard wood, we still have scratches from Bear's claws. But, she does have 40 lbs on P-Dawg and HATES to get her claws trimmed, so they are kinda long. We used Soft Paws on her, but now regret it because she won't let us take off the remains of what is on there and they are only suposto' stay on for 2-3 months. They did help her keep her footing on the floors though.

Not sure if this really helps...

I have friends w/bamboo flooring and their dogs do leave shallow scratches. Because of that and cost issues we ended up installing pergo over a year ago. The dogs do nothing to the pergo. The only mark has been where I dropped a crystal vase on it and it broke.

I have two 30 lb corgis but they like to run and try to turn corners and dig in their nails. Plus my female's nails grow like crazy.
