I have noticed that when when something can go wrong it may (Murphy's Law) or that Karma can haunt you, but when you are otherwise just trying to to the right thing IT CAN BE HARD

Joking aside, I can understand why all the women in your life want to pay you for your service to our country. Really, thanks dude. You may be a nut but you're our nut and we really appreciate your going over there, not once but twice and doing your job as a marine.
I don't believe in karma or murphy's law (beyond the common metaphorical usages) so I would say that choosing to quit smoking as you're returning from military service isn't the easiest route. I think that you could have expected this to be a stressful transition (even if it is also a happy one) and that you shouldn't be surprised if you want to smoke now more than you remember wanting to in the past (of course part of that feeling is simply withdrawl).
