First of all, I can only agree that this largely amounts to fear-mongering. It isn't diversity in and of itself, which will divide society; it's isolationism. Illegal immigration is causing isolationism because, if you don't want people to know you're an illegal alien, the safest thing to do is avoid people and keep to yourself in enclaves of other illegal immigrants.
The very fact that the immigration law isn't enforced undermines the unity of the American society. If the law is unenforceable, the law is flawed and should be changed. It is imperative that the people be kept honest, so they can live without fear - without feeling oppressed by a law, which is not enforced and hence appears unfair.
The cure to the present illegal immigration woes of this country is simple: make the law enforceable and help immigrant employees and American employers alike to obey it.
