Although I can't blame them for asking for some sort of fee, but most people aren't going to pay that amount of money! I heard some people are using Flickr. I think I'm going to try that. Funny thing is, yesterday I started going through my posts, deleting all the big black pictures that say the image doesn't exist anymore. What a mess!
I think it's just to much what they are asking for. A fee is fine but I can't afford that much. Flickr is great for photographs but I havn't seen any manips or collages there so I don't know. Started to move some of my pictures to ImangeVenue. For the time being its free and pretty easy to handle.
Yeah, it pretty much sucks what they've done. A nominal fee is one thing. $390 dollars a year is ridiculous and extortionate. I can't imagine they're getting many takers. The least they should've allowed was folks to get their pics back before locking the sites down if you don't pay.
I don't know if it will help you recover any of your pictures, but, just in case, someone posted a link to a plugin that makes Photobucket images visible again.
Oh Wow. Thank you so much for the links. I'm certainly going to try it. It feels kind of weird that they ask for so much. Even if you have a paid account with them you can't see any pics at LJ. You have to have the $390 account in order to see the pictures. Really odd.

Yes, I think the whole thing amounts to extortion, the way they handled it. Not a great way to do business, that's for sure!
