If it helps, think of the horrors of English in the present/past/imperfect!
I bring, I brang, I brought
I Drink, I Drank, I have drunk. (and I'm still drunk! / yup, he's a drunken sailor)
I think, I thought, I have thought/I used to think...
...it makes no sense! the patterns are horrid!
Also, and this is Very Important -- this is possibly the Second Most Important Trick To Learning a Language -- get drunk with the locals! (The first of course is date a local)
