Television, the drug of the Nation Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation
You just KNOW ppl can't help but plug in, if it's there :-( Having just minutes ago gotten rid of my ex's mammoth "entertainment centre" that dominated the lounge and the occupants interraction, I know how you feel.
Yes TV is just like a drug. It's interesting experimenting with no TV or internet. I find the internet too addictive! I'm falling back on books at the moment.
Some of those bands you listed at nz goth I'd never heard of. Any must check out stuff you can reccommend? Or is all of it equally good? : )
Oh, sorry I just saw this :-) Well I love the Scientists..they were a dirgy heavy sounding oz band(I think). Similar to early Birthday Party in content. Gaye Bykers defy description..lots of samples and a heavy sound. There was lots of humour in music..think of a more techno ish Zodiac Mindwarp. I don't think they put out much..I only have an extended 12" with different mixes of "Git down (shake your thang)". I also really like Pop will eat itself from that era (mid 80's-early 90's). Pioneering with their use of samples, melding hiphop and rock. Wonderstuff is another excellent British indie pop band with sarcasm and cheek. Hmmm can't remember who else I mentioned. Cabaret Voltaire I used to love. Another "alt" band that was great in our alternative clubs at the time. Some weaker moments, but "Do right" "Sensoria" and "Do Right" stand out in my memory. See if you can download any of it :-)
I can't download anything because I don't have the internet. Our flat's thinking about getting it back for a short while but we've gone really old school for the time being. May look up some of this stuff at the library. I usually like quirky music.
Playing all that vinyl must be a kick!
Has the meetup been confirmed? I don't have anything else on that night so could make it.
Last meetup felt hmm brief and uneventful. I'm not asking for animal sacrifices but I'd hoped there'd be something going on. Perhaps I could bring along Cluedo.
