I'd prefer a hat with a story to tell. A hat bought new has no soul. Shoplifting one makes it slightly more interesting. You never know the history of a hat bought in a second hand store. It remains mystireous, which can be a good thing. A theatrical hat is fun, but its stories are fiction, except what it saw while in the costume room, which, really, I don't want to know. Which leaves the hat worn in travels by someone you care for, a well loved that has seen more than you may ever see. Or better yet, a hat which may help to guide you in your own travels through out the world. This is the hat I would choose.
