Hello people,

Anyone had experience bringing a Kindle or other e-reader into the Peace Corps? Good idea? Bad idea?

In 2007 my wife I bought Sony's first e-reader to take into the Peace Corps, and it was one of the best things we brought. E-readers last for weeks on a single charge and you can fit hundreds of e-books on a cheap memory card. Even if you get placed miles from the nearest source of electricity, an e-reader will be a reliable source of entertainment for even the most voracious of readers.

Note - be sure the reader you buy has an E-ink screen rather than LCD or OLED. E-ink screens have the best battery life by far, though they lack backlighting.

I got a Sony Reader, too... BEST idea EVER. I'm totally serious. It was absolutely the best thing I brought with me.
