Hi, I have a question about ET and health insurance. I know returned volunteers are eligible for affordable health insurance for a year after service, but what about people who terminate early ( Read more... )

ETing PCVs are eligible for the same affordable health insurance as COSing PCVs. It's US law that any employee who quits, gets laid off, gets fired, etc. get affordable insurance continuation. It's often called "COBRA"

It is affordable in quotes, like "affordable". COBRA is notoriously expensive. Also, I don't remember it being very good or covering very much.

Yeah, the price of COBRA has skyrocketed since government subsidies on it expired (last year, I think?). It is usually cheaper than buying a plan by yourself however.

Oh, I know this is a taaddd late, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to share something I just thought of: often your state or your county health dept. will have some plans available to low income and unemployed folks. It wouldn't hurt to check that out. Usually people think to look into state healthcare but they often forget about county services.
