Rainiest Year on Record

Nov 15, 2006 13:30

I was just about to write a post complaining about the never-ending rain and overcast-ness, when I saw this article.

It would appear we're not imagining it! This season (Sept. 21 to Dec 21st) we're already 70% above normal in terms of rainfall received. It's probably going to be 100% above normal by the time Dec 21st rolls around!

It's also been ridiculously warm. And tomorrow and Friday are supposed to be as high as 15-20C!

Last year's winter was fairly mild for Montreal, each year has been getting warmer and warmer. I'm sure this trend will continue... (poor Earth!)

even though the dude in the article says that
"Before you say 'global warming,' you have to step back and look at how this rainy year fits into an overall pattern."

People tend to look at just one year rather than 10-year periods to make comparisons, he noted.

"This is just a blip, nothing special. The sky isn't falling," Butler said.

i'm still inclined to lump this in with a warming trend of the past several years, and thus hook it up with global warming. but he's the meterologist, i guess. :)

totally unrelated:
i've got a friend's book launch to attend tomorrow night, but i'm going to try to make a later appearance at the canoe fundraising party.
