I don't generally post petitions, but I know who wrote this one, where it comes from and what it means.

Please, if you have any interest in stopping the badger cull that will be starting next month, sign this petition. It was started by Brian May and if we reach 100,000 signatures by the end of the month we will be able to debate this topic.

Signed.

The cull should never have been approved. Some people will only be satisfied when there are no wild animals left. Bastards.

Can't sign, but will pass it on. I've been following this closely, and have been appalled: "Well, this won't work, but we have to do something!" is an idiotic approach to public health and safety and spending, even when it doesn't involve a massacre of a key species.

Thank you. It means a lot to me. This is very upsetting to me and I am doing all I legally can to help stop this. Not only a massacre of a key species - the massacre of a Protected key species. If this is protected status I despair.

The US isn't doing any better, with its resumption of wolf hunting. What happened? I hope all this is just a temporary reversal, a sociopolitical last gasp, not the face of the inhumane and consequences-blind future.

So what's the rationale for this cull? The badgers are spreading some disease? Vaccinating the cattle would probably cost less and be more likely to work, than shooting the badgers you see and hoping you didn't miss too many.

On a lighter note, I have some improvised artwork up on my LJ that you might find amusing.

The problem with cattle vaccination as it currently stands is that when you vaccinate, the cattle when tested come up positive for TB. YOu then can't tell if they are really positive for TB.

What they need to do, and are doing in some places, is vaccinate the badgers while working on a better vaccination for cattle.

Signed. I saw him on Channel 4 news a few days ago about the cull; he did a good job.

Btw, I do love "Dr Brian May CBE" -- it's so impressive! :)
