My history of magazine subscriptions

Mar 15, 2008 01:16

On the way to town Erin and I picked up the mail and there was a sample issue of the Prairie Blossom Gazette from Bonnie. What a nice suprise! :) A while back I finally stopped sending for sample subscriptions of magazines that I'd see recommended in various materials. Too many times I'd go to the bank and get US $ out (since most were in the ( Read more... )

I used to have a huge stack of mag samples as well. So many that had ended up being just a few pages together, by 13/14 yrs olds maybe. I know what you mean! You have to start somewhere.... but maybe it should be mentioned that it's for young ones. =)

Glad you have another one to add to your list!

I think I need to sort through my stack that has grown over the years. LOL!

I'm glad you liked PBG! Bonnie called me to get your address last week so she could send you the issue. :)

I think having a real paper-and-ink magazine/newsletter is a lot more work (and expense!!) than a website/online ministry. If you had 100 subscribers, it'd cost a lot to send each one of them even just a postcard letting them know about a very late issue... although I doubt some of them have that many subscribers, they're also probably being run by girls with very little money! :) I love doing my website, but I know I could never stick to putting out a magazine! I am VERY thankful for Hidden Wisdom's ministry!! :)

I do agree a real magazine is much more demanding and time consuming than an online one. I can see what you're saying about the cost of notifying subscribers though I'm sure you could notify most through email. I remember giving my home address and email and didn't hear a thing for months from the editor of one magazine so I guess I was more thinking about that type of thing. It probably didn't help that I was writing this post past 1 AM. LOL!

I could say much of the same things...
Did you ever get The King's Daughter? They were the best I've ever received. They quit a few years ago and then had a monthly e-newsletter, then they quit all together. But they were always on time and one of my favorites.
Sam and I have gotten so many different ones and then some never even heard a word again. Right now we get Hidden Wisdom and Tapestries of the Heart. We also subscribed to Hope Chest but not sure what's going on with that one. We really enjoyed Prairie Blossom Gazette, what a neat surprise to get it in the mail! I think we are going to subscribe. ;) (Thank you Bonnie!)

You're welcome! I was hoping that address was correct... I got it out of some issue of PBG because Tammy didn't have it- anywhere she could find it, at least. :D

"King's Daughter" rings a bell. I think a friend may have given me a copy or two of that magazine a while back.

I never subscribed to the "King's Daughter" but I believe a friend gave me an issue or two a few years back. I'll have to check my stack at home. :)

Yes, I'd recommend "The King's Blooming Rose." :) It is published by Sarah Byrant. http://www.kingsbloomingrose.com/ is the link for the magazine's site. It is $7 for a US Subscription. It is about a 20 page magazine so the smallest compared to the other three I get but still a good publication.
