Character name: Rin
Fandom: Naruto
Timeline: Immediately post Kakashi Gaiden (After chapter 244)
Age: 13
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: As a medical ninja, Rin has extensive training in healing. …Which is kind of obvious. In the short period of time she had an appearance, Rin is shown to be an extremely skilled medic, healing serious wounds until they’re practically gone unless strained, and can successfully transplant an eyeball very quickly without proper equipment, sanitation, and under heavy pressure. Other than that, it’s basically assumed she has the same skills as an average ninja (using chakra energy to perform techniques, throwing weapons such as kunai and shruiken). Also she apparently has a very strong will, as when Rin was captured by enemies and tortured for information using a genjutsu, illusion techniques, she did not reveal anything at all.
How would they use their abilities?: Well, healing I guess. To help out anyone injured and such.
Appearance: Rin has short brown hair and brown eyes. Her height is not given, although at the age of thirteen, she was shorter than both her teammates Uchiha Obito and Hatake Kakashi. There are two rectangular purple markings on the sides of her face, from her jawline to halfway up her cheeks. She wore a standard Konoha (the village she originates from) headband around her forehead, a long-sleeved black shirt, shorts, and an apron tied around her waist. She also wore long stockings that stopped just beneath her shorts, as well as bandages and a pouch tied around her upper leg.
And here is a picture of her face! Personality: From what was shown in canon, Rin was very friendly with her team, as well as their peacemaker. She had a crush on her teammate Kakashi, although when he and her other teammate Obito frequently got into arguments, she would try to separate them, never taking one side over the other, and she did not outright state her feelings for him until it seemed like they were both about to get killed. Rin was also able to keep calm under intense pressure, such as only crying for a short moment before immediately getting all business-like when Obito was crushed under a rock and asked her to transplant his eye to replace Kakashi’s ruined one. She loved her team very much, demonstrated when she refused to let go of Obito’s hand until the very last moment, when she and Kakashi both had to escape, and also refused to leave Kakashi immediately when he told her to get out because he had to protect her for Obito’s sake.
Background: Most of Rin’s early life and what happened after her only canon appearance is pretty much unknown. In fact, her last name isn’t even given. She graduated from the ninja academy at the age of 9, becoming a chunin (moderately skilled ninja) at age 11. She was placed on Namikaze Minato’s team, who would become the future Fourth Hokage, the leader of Konoha. Her teammates were Uchiha Obito, a cheerful member of the Uchiha clan (surprising, considering how most of them were…pretty rude), and Hatake Kakashi, the genius son of Hatake Sakumo, Konoha’s White Fang. Team Minato generally stayed together even after they were all promoted to chunin, and went on various missions.
Growing up during the Third Shinobi World War was a dangerous time, with even more dangerous missions. Team Minato was selected to go on one of these missions, in order to destroy the Kannabi Bridge. At the time, Kakashi was promoted to a jounin and lead Rin and Obito to do so while their teacher Minato acted as a diversion to draw out the main enemy force so that they wouldn’t encounter too many enemies. So at the start of the mission, Rin, Kakashi, and Minato were waiting for Obito, who was perpetually late, although he always had a good excuse. When he finally showed up, he and Kakashi immediately got into an argument, which Rin tried to settle.
Then they (minus Obito because he really didn’t like Kakashi then and he forgot) gave Kakashi presents for becoming a jounin. Rin’s gift was a custom medical pack she made herself, and had sewed a protective charm into it (which ended up not really helping, unfortunately).
After that, Team Minato sets off, and they quickly encounter one enemy ninja. Kakashi demonstrates some new skill he made called Chidori, and his teammates are amazed by its power. So he goes tearing up the battlefield, beating up the shadow clones that the enemy made. However, he gets injured, which would have been fatal if Minato had not saved him. So Minato drops him off by Rin and Obito, and Rin proceeds to start healing Kakashi while Minato takes care of the enemy. Obito and Kakashi start arguing yet again about following orders and cowardice and stuff, while Rin attempted to stop it again. Then Minato breaks the argument up, reminding them that the most important thing is teamwork. They rest up for the night by a big rock, and Obito has a talk with Minato which doesn’t really involve Rin.
In the morning, Rin does a checkup on Kakashi, bandaging his injury and telling him that it’s pretty much healed but be careful not to strain it. They continue on the mission, and split up from Minato to get to their objective.
Unfortunately, they’re ambushed by two more enemies, and Rin gets kidnapped. Very easily. But to be fair, the enemy was invisible.
While Kakashi and Obito have yet another big life-changing argument, Rin is taken to a cave by the enemies and interrogated under genjutsu, but she’s fairly stubborn and doesn’t give up any info. When Kakashi and Obito finally show up after Kakashi loses an eye (bandaging it with Rin’s medpack) and Obito awakens his Sharingan (a bloodline limit of the Uchiha clan, basically super powered eyes), they make short work of the lone enemy and release Rin from the genjutsu, and she’s understandably pleased to see them, having no idea at the time that Kakashi had been ready to call it a day and proceed on the mission without any thought for her safety, unlike Obito who had wanted to rescue her. But they did, so it’s all good.
It turns out that the enemy ninja wasn’t totally dead yet, and he performs a technique that completely collapses the cave they’re in. They start running towards the exit, but Kakashi is hit by a rock in his blind spot while Rin calls his name, and Obito runs over to throw Kakashi out of the way.
Much to Rin’s horror when she wakes up (she and Kakashi having passed out for a second), half of Obito is crushed under a giant rock. She whispers a bit in disbelief, asking why it had to happen. But as Obito makes his final request, to give his uncrushed Sharingan eye to Kakashi, Rin wipes away her tears, telling Kakashi to go over quickly so that she can begin the procedure. After that is said and done, Kakashi goes to take care of the ninja that escaped, while Rin sits and holds Obito’s hand. The enemy suddenly appears again, but Obito tells Rin not to worry, as the enemy collapses and Kakashi peers down at them.
Obito tells Rin and Kakashi to escape because more of the enemy were definitely coming, and tells Kakashi to take care of Rin, but Rin is reluctant to leave Obito until the very last moment when the cave is literally collapsing again, but she grabs Kakashi’s hand and they both run like hell out of there, mourning Obito.
But wait! The enemy found them again! Kakashi charges up his perfected Chidori, and tells Rin to get out as he provides a distraction. Then he tells her that Obito loved her, and Rin replies that Kakashi should know of her feelings for him too but is cut off by Kakashi admitting that he was lower than trash, having been perfectly happy to leave her for the mission before his change of heart.
Then the enemies attack, Minato swoops in at the last second to kill off the ninjas, and Kakashi passes out. Rin tells Minato what happened, and her last appearance is of her staring up at the night sky.
What happens to her after this is completely unknown, other than the fact that she died before the storyline started. So tons of headcanon after this, although none of it will matter because of her canon point.
Have you read up on how the game works?: Yep. The guide’s called the FlamingFerret, money is made from mooching, stealing, or missions.
1st person sample:
[The video clicks on, only showing the ceiling, and there’s a girl’s voice speaking clearly.]
-lot of papers, I don’t think I’m going to need this one-
[A shrill reply about how it’s of the utmost importance and you won’t be able to live if you don’t do it, blah blah blah.]
A-ah, alright then… No, I already signed that paper! I really don’t need another copy!
[The video is properly angled now and shows a slightly nervous looking girl, with purple markings and a Konoha forehead protector.]
Hello? Is anyone there? Can this thing really let me talk to people? Is anyone from Konoha here? Or if there’s someone who can answer some questions I have, that would be fine too.
3rd person sample:
To put it simply, this entire situation was the strangest thing she had ever experienced.
Rin still wasn’t sure whether this was a hallucination, brought on by exhaustion from their mission as well as grief over Obito’s death, or a really realistic dream (would it count as a nightmare?). She pinched her arm, just to make sure, and flinched. The feeling of pain was real enough. And even if it wasn’t, she would play along with it for now. Rin reached up to touch the thing they had put in her ear. That seemed real enough as well. Although this might also be an elaborate genjutsu. She had tried inconspicuously dispelling it earlier, but either it was beyond her skill level to do so or there wasn’t one at all. But even if it was, it seemed fairly pointless. What kind of ridiculous person would think up a situation like this, where worlds were destroyed and there were refugees living on ships in space?
There were so many people. Konoha had a lot of people too, streets were often fairly crowded, but it was nothing compared to the enormous size of the ship. In space. Well, she would let that part sink in a bit later. Her priority was to find people she knew.
Specifically, Minato-sensei and Kakashi and Ob-.
Slipping. She was slipping a bit there.
In any case, standing around and filling out useless looking paperwork wasn’t doing anything. Rin didn’t even need half of the things that the forms were for, and especially didn’t want that strange creature shoving papers she had already signed back at her. So she quietly set the pen down and retreated to a corner, fiddling with the strange communication device they had given her. It was slightly nerve-wracking, to think that the thousands of people on the ship could see this, but it was a matter of necessity.
She would find them no matter what. She had to find her team- No, her family. What was left of it. She had to make sure that everyone was alive and breathing and talking and living, and so help anyone who got in her way.
Questions?: Nope!
Did you put your characters name and fandom in the subject: Probably! Maybe! Very likely! ...I hope so!
