i sympathize...today was rough but now we have broken out a bottle of wine and things are getting better. plus, i had a lovely dinner with laura sackton last night and i could almost feel your presence.

At first, though, the Plimoth colonists and the native folks were a really good example of cooperation. Lucinda in her sermon at the interfaith Thanksgiving service tonight was using the example of Squanto (the native who could speak English because years before he had been kidnapped and taken to Europe as a slave, and then eventually returned) as how one person could make a huge difference - he basically taught them how to farm in New England (as opposed to the climate they had at home) and brokered deals between the colonists and the natives. We're meant to take from that the message that one person acting alone can in fact make a huge difference.

i love you. im sorry you were sad. i wish i could hug you and make you feel happy again, but im in virginia and youre...in california.

i'll be not-really celebrating thanksgiving on the commune, eating pretty sustainably and feeling okay with my life.

i miss you.
