Okay! July 4th! It was gonna be awesome but then Billy had to go to a BBQ with his mom and I had to pack for California. Oh well. The fact still remains that exactly 228 years ago, American gained its independence from Britain and our nation as we know it today began. I think that's pretty cool. Although, I doubt our contry as a whole can pull together and make America a positively-respected country again (meaning they respect us because of helpful things not because we are powerful). People today are only concerned with money and sex, most could care less that other countries view us as arrogant and short sighted.
Also, all important holidays have lost all their original meaning like labor day, independance day, christmas, etc, etc. They've just turned into excuses to give gifts and cook burgers. I think the terrorist attacks are helping us realise the importance of these holidays, what it means to be from america, and our mortality. Unless we change our thinking we won't be able to get out of the rut of taking things for granted.
