Wow now I'm going to have to see the movie, because it certainly sounds amazing. Well, Utopia can probably never happen, which is what makes the story seem fictitious, because nothing on this Earth is perfect. We all know that. Anywho, are you back from LA? No, the movie contradicts the book. What you have to do is read the book. She is in New Mexico, at a friend's house.
There isn't really over-population in this book because humans have inhabited other planets. In any case, the robots cannot harm humans or allow them to come to harm through inactivity.
I belive there was never a mention of a utopia in the book, it simply said that the robots would take the best courses of action to make sure the humans don't destroy themselves. Also, pretty much all the work is done by the robots anyways.
And no, we can't operate without imperfection, but in any case I don't really see robots ever taking over like that for the simple reason that people are vain and need a ends for the means. Yes.
