The Social Security issue is blown out of proportion. The Social Security 'colapse' is the system going into reserves set aside while the US had to many workers and not enough old. The system won't actualy go into debt for decades. The other thing is that a small increase in taxes would save it. Also, if Bushes proposal passes, it actualy makes the porblem worse becuase not only will the government have to give people a bunch of money, guess what, people who are going to retire soon will still need social security and the government will have even less money to pay them.
I don't think it's blown out of proportion that much. The fact is that the system has no longevity, and its only going to get worse. And by decades, you mean 2042 or around then, which is only a little while before our generation will be faced with retirement, and will need our social security benefits. Yeah, we could increase the tax, but Americans in general believe that they pay way too much in taxes anyway. I doubt very much that Bush will make a move to increase taxes. And yeah, if his proposal passes, exactly... the problem will get worse.
