Emily's one of those people that, before I got to know her, I just thought she was too cool to want to be friends with someone like me. Seriously. I knew her in passing when I first joined the CCE, but we didn't really become friends until midway through the semester, when she randomly started texting me to hang out, go to dinner, do homework

That's the perfect way to describe Emily, and honestly I think that's a good way to go about life. I'm the same way about other people and their happiness; I feel terrible if people around me aren't happy. Methinks you are not egotistical, but just an overall Pretty Swell Person.
