Maybe it's a little idealistic, but I always say that you should do what you enjoy doing. I'd rather be poor and happy than miserable and a little richer.
The result of my liberal arts moral dilemma: I thought I was going to be a linguistics major, but ultimately decided that while it was really interesting, I couldn't picture myself spending a life doing linguistics research. So I split the difference and became a public health major, which I really love. I get to be a nerdy academic and do nerdy academic research (here's hoping, anyway), AND I get to work with real-world problems that affect real people. All with having taken only one real science class in college.
Do what makes you happy. There are lots of ways to give back to society.
P.S. You don't have to be a science major to be pre-med! You just have to take the pre-med classes.
