Thesis Scare!

Well, a couple of weeks ago I spilled a huge cup of hot tea on my laptop that I had just finished buying from MIke for $700. I'd been paying it off for a year, and had just made my last payment. What irony! The laptop is completely dead, and I thought I lost my entire thesis because ITS couldn't recover anything off my hard drive. But, to my ( Read more... )

For grad schools I've heard it's better to apply to not very many...maybe four or so. You just have to do lots of research to narrow it down first. Plus if you know a lot about each school and show them that you really want to go there, you have a much better chance of getting in. This is what I've heard.

I'm glad your thesis didn't dissappear! MadMacs in Pittsfield is good, that's where my sister brought her laptob to be repaired.
Yeah, you can usually get a good idea of what places will be good for you (and who will be more likely to accept you) by visiting the school. I visited two schools and applied to four. I got into the school with which I had the most contact with the people running the program. You should also check what each school is looking for in an applicant. Most of the schools I applied to wanted several years of working in your chosen field (including the one I got into, I'm still not sure how I got around that, but I guess working at the Museum for a year helped). But then again, some places don't, and I guess it depends on the field and the individual programs.
Anyway!
Have fun dancing and thesising!

Also, BACK UP YOUR THESIS IN THE FUTURE. You can even just email it as attachment to yourself so that it just exists in at least one other place. Glad it still exists.

Was that the seventeen inch powerbook that Mike used to have?

By the way, I sat next to someone in biology and saw her write the name "Amanda Lee" atop her paper. Someone is carrying on your Texas legacy in your absence.
