so my period has gone to a 21-22 day cycle which is like, 16+ periods a year.

anyone used seasonale? or other pills that get rid of your period?

spotting seems to be the main issue with them, and really? if i'm going to spot randomly all the time i think that would be more obnoxious than just dealing with extra periods.

i tried two different long-cycle pills and had break through bleeding (btb) with both of them. "spotting" was periods that would last 10 days. of course, with me that also carried migraines so we stopped but my understanding is that the btb goes away after a few "cycles" aka 6-9 mos. i did, infact, find the btb very annoying.

more recently i switched to nuvaring and i LURVE it. i have no spotting, the hormone levels are So. Even. and i can go 24 days, have 2-4 days of period, and back on it after just four days. some people can use nuvaring for ongoing long-cycle periods, but that didn't work for me. my body could tell as soon as it started to lessen in strength. but i really love it as it is at 24/4, fwiw ymmv etc. :)

Izzy: how long have you had the Nuvaring? Have you experienced any mood swings or emotional weirdness? My doc has suggested I use it but I'm askeered -- have had terrible mood problems with the bcp. I realize Nuvaring is different, but I'm still wary.

Mo: my cycle has gone to a 24-25 day cycle. Not as annoying as 21-22 but still pretty annoying. Let me know what meds you try.

i've been on the nuvaring for about a year, i think. man, time has flown. i've had some mood swings as it wears out, for lack of a better way to put it, but it's so predictable that i just go easier on myself and take a breath before i open my mouth. i have very few PMS symptoms with it and my body has really settled in to it - my periods are typically light to nothing these days.

the good thing about nuvaring is that if it freaks your body out it's very easy to stop "taking". pull it out and 3 days later it's out of your system, basically.

honestly, i'm surprised at how easy and non-intrusive and effective it's been for me. i didn't expect it. YMMV of course, as everyone is so different =\
