from everything is illuminated by jonathan safran foer... at a jewish sabbath service at a congregant's house. i have no idea what it means in terms of jewish ritual and it probably makes just as much sense reading the excerpt out of context as it does to me in context (by which i mean very little), but i sort of like it.
