Why on earth do people do the "no offense" thing? It doesn't undo anything you've just said!

"He was acting like a woman (no offense to the smart/independent/beautiful ladies here) but I slapped some sense into him and taught him how to act like a man."

On what planet is that okay?

It means "I am going to be offensive but don't you dare take offense!" which is so fucked up.

On the other hand, it also means that any decent person can just stop listening to them once they say it. It's a useful buzzword in such a case -- sorta like if you hear anyone talking about "the PC police."

i say the "no offense" phrase before i say something that may offend - just as a buffer.. to say i don't want to hurt them in any way but i did want to speak my opinion or what not.. probably not the best way of handling things...

idk, sometimes there are just certain stereotypes that are so heavily embedded in our cultural mindset and are still often seen enough that a person may want to draw upon them to make a comment, but do so in a way that isn't meant to denigrate or insult. If that makes sense?
