A planet has recently been discovered orbiting a red dwarf star that is about 20 light-years from the Sun. The Star is called Gliese 581, and is notable for being the largest known solar system outside our own (6 planets). Along those lines, Carl Sagan once said something to this effect: "There are two possibilities. One that evolved life such as our exists elsewhere in the universe and the other that such life does not exist and we are alone. Both possibilities are staggering."
