BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE,
BLISS has two volumes scanlated. Go read my canon. Once you do that, you can come back and read this. WEAR YOUR SPOILER GOGGLES.
Now guys, I am not as obsessive as I could be re: canon, I don't try to find raws or to get ahead of the scanlations. I've read summaries for the next few chapters, and I am aware of the existence of the novels (the manga is a prequel) buuut I don't really know anything beyond "This is what Fon does IN THE FUTURE" so I am bound to mess up. Please talk to me if I do! I'm all for doing things right.
That said, someone commented on the HMD meme and then left without giving me any actual concerns. Y U DO THAT ANON. So I don't have anything to address THUS what I will do here is explain where I'm coming from and then if Anon is out there, they can comment and we can ENGAGE IN CONVERSATION.
First, I keep calling Fon a Mary Sue. I call him that fondly, I swear, and with good reason.
First thing are his eyes, which are very pretty, very rare, and are given a lot of attention in canon. When Jake tells him they're pretty, he blushes. It's hard to tell if it's because he's getting a compliment or because it's Jake the one giving it. But the point is he has unique eyes that most people had never seen before.
Then you have Fon having a perfect memory, it's stated that he can remember everything he reads. Later, on a yet-to-be-scanlated chapter, Jake destroys a paper and Fon says it doesn't matter because he can remember it anyway.
Next! BEING GOOD AT EVERYTHING. The kid has perfect grades, he's top of his class, this despite being two years younger than everyone else. He gets a score of 100, he was the best in the entrance exam, he's good at horseback riding despite never having done it before. ALSO, RANDOMLY, he's good with animals! He's seen interacting with his horse and with a cat, when Jake asks, he says he likes them.
FAST HEALING. He falls off a horse and breaks a few ribs, a day later he's mostly healed. When he tells Jake about it Jake's like "That's impossible" and Fon replies with "That's what the doctor said." Something like that, anyway.
FINALLY. Enhanced senses! I'm keeping this at good reflexes and good hearing. This may or may not be coupled with a heightened sense of danger. What we have in canon is a gun having been messed with. Fon can hear it despite the noise in the room and being relatively far away, he realizes there's something wrong with the gun before it's used. This happens in a room full of people and he is the only one capable of hearing it. Fon is shocked when he finds out no one else could tell.
NOW, FON'S PERSONALITY.
Fon is not a stable guy, he's kind of insane. Insane with good intentions! He hears a voice spurring him on "DON'T FORGET YOUR HATE FOR THE BLACK MARKET" this voice is represented in the manga as another Fon creeping at him from behind.
He has a couple of triggers, badmouthing his father or implying he's been experimented on makes him very angry. His glare scares people off. But crazy aside, he's a good person. He's capable of having fun with other people if he's in the right environment and is used to them. He can actually be a social kid! He can totally hide the tsunn. HOWEVER, HE FAILS AT SOCIAL IN CAMP. I will tell you why.
First, Fon arrived to camp thinking he'd be in it for a week tops and not knowing he'd left Ilegenes. This is relevant because when Jake suggests they leave the island and go traveling in the future, we have Fon thinking he'll die if he ever leaves. So the first couple of weeks in camp, Fon spent them very unsure of what to do. He wasn't expecting having to deal with people, or needing a place to live. Or, you know, ending up in a completely different world away from everything he'd ever known.
And then two weeks in the CFUW plot happened. Lolol. Which I had a blast with and would walk into AGAIN because it made for awesome relationships. DURING THIS GAME, FON DIED. He was also pretty much helpless to prevent anyone ELSE from dying, and he hated every second of it. Fon's parents were murdered in front of him, so he has leftover trauma from that. I COULD RANT MORE ON THAT, but the gist of it is that he felt helpless and hated that a lot and his attempts to stop feeling helpless didn't do much.
MOVING ON. When I first apped, I didn't expect Fon to be so lost by himself, he's a character in constant need of an objective. But even with an objective in mind, he needs grounding. And he has people helping with that, trying to be friends or just talking to him. But he's still a 17 year old kid outside of his world who doesn't know how to make friends. So he's easily thrown off and easy to top, because even though he has an objective now (he's trying to learn alchemy and wants to research the Sayre family) he doesn't have an anchor. Which is why I need a Jake.
I FEEL BETTER. GROUND OPEN FOR QUESTIONS.
IP logging is most likely off, I am cool with Anon questions. Comments aren't screened because then you can't reply to them and that sucks buuuut my e-mail is inupr0n AT gmail if anyone wants to discuss stuff in a less public venue.
