Isn't Life Fun? The lack of me at Dogtoberfest, Dances, and Babes In Arms (wtf?)

Sep 12, 2009 14:40

I apologize to anyone who looked for me at the Dogtoberfest. We weren't there. Thursday night found me feeling a bit punk, but ignoring it since we had a show to do. Yesterday morning my body decided to do it's bit to convince me I was not well- running a low grade fever of 100, congestion, coughing, laryngitis (I sound like Minnie Mouse on helium ( Read more... )

First: Thank you, I feel a bit guilty laying around doing nothing but reading (as opposed to when I play hooky and reading, but that tends to be illicit and more satisfying...lol), but the meds make me a bit sleepy and after my bout with pneumonia last November, I know a few days of care will make the difference between getting well and "oh, shit, what do you mean you're putting me in the hospital?"

Second: I know, amazing isn't it? You can thank/blame Shug, since I made a promise to her to finish it sooner rather than later (she actually gave me a deadline...lol). The story has never been abandoned, just pushed to the back as RL got in my way. Too, when you're away from a story for a bit, sometimes it's hard to pick up the same rhythm you had before. I could tie up all the loose ends quickly with what I have written now (the last chapter has been written almost since the beginning. I know the start and where the story needs to end), but I didn't think that would be fair to those that have followed it, or to the story itself. Fast ( ... )

And I don't think it's just me (judging from what I've heard from others) but I have these moments of "did I write that?" as I review the bits and pieces I've written already. Mind you, I like what I've written, I'm actually amazed how good I think some of it is (isn't ego a wonderful thing?...grin) and only hope I can match the writing style again. I had to go back and reread the last few chapters to pick up the storyline and cadence of the story again, but my muse is enthusiastic, and the IRS has extended my deadline for forms to Oct 30, so everything seems to be in order...lol

Oooh, can't wait! The story, itself, has been so different. Just amazing, I said that already, didn't I?

-pulls up the thesaurus and looks up other terms for amazing-

*nods* - Yep, anyone one of these will do: awesome, fascinating, incredible, marvelous, prodigious, shocking, stunning, surprising, unbelievable, and wonderful; you may take your pick...grin...You may have noticed, I really did like the story.

Ah, I can't tell you how much fun I had that weekend. If it's okay with you, I'd like to post the pics of the Professor and me here.

I have to get in touch with Gem; shouldn't be too hard since we live about ten miles away from each other...lol

I've been looking into the info for Infinitus. I had already informed my hubby I wanted to visit Universal Studios when the new section opened in 2010, the symposium just makes it that much better. My in-laws live outside of Daytona, so I'm thinking I will attend the symposium (HP and Univeral is not of that much interest to my hubby, though he would attend if I asked him) and then meet up with my hubby at his folks plave (I'm very sure my mother-in-law won't miss me if I never show up...lol). Just need to work out details, but I've blocked that week end/week off of my work calendar so I won't actually schedule any shows (my contracts are set from six months to a year a head for most of the shows I do). I can't wait!

Thank you, I'm coming along. At least my temperature is back to normal.

You know, that's exactly what I thought when I watched Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland singing. He reminded me of Rupert Grint, too. I could see them as part of the Golden Trio if the book had been written back in their day (can you imagine a singing, dancing Voldemort?...lol).

LOL...not old, just experienced.

My kids don't know any of the older movie stars (Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Katherine Hepburn, Hope and Crosby, etc). My twenty-three year old son only knows the Marx Brothers because he has watched their movies with me several times. The 'Why a Duck' routine is one of his favorites. It's such a same, some of the old movies really are great classics. There are very few actors and actresses today that have the same talent as some of older movie stars.

Oi, move over, I think I'll pull up my rocking chair next to yours...smile

Very nice; my son just watched, and loved, The Godfather trilogy. Godfellas (one of my hubby's favorites, I swear, there is a Godfather/Godfellas/Pulp Fiction channel on our cable. These are the only three (well, six if you break apart the trilogy) movies the channel shows, and they're all favorites of my hubby's-shrugs- maybe he was somehow involved with the programing) is next on the 'list' to watch ( ... )

I adore old Hollywood movies! Classic movies were my first true obsession and I've attended old movie conventions since the mid 80's. If you think people are clueless when you mention Mickey Rooney or Judy Garland, you should see the blank stares I get when I mention silent film stars like Lillian Gish or Douglas Fairbanks!

Hope you feel better soon! Sometimes your body just knows when to say when and keep you from doing too, too much. Chicken soup and fanfic always does a body a world of good!

Me, too. I have a framed poster of "Gone With the Wind" (another of my favorites) on an easel in my front foyer. Some days Severus almost sound like Rhett Butler to me when I write him, a definite rogue, but with a modicum of charm if he so chooses. My version of Severus also has a lot of Hans Solo in him, come to think of it. But then again, Rhett Butler and Hans Solo are of the same ilk.

Cary Grant, too, is another of my favorites, I love all of his old movies. I can just imagine the blank looks when you mention silent films, especially considering today's technology. It's hard to imagine that silent films were cutting edge at one time...lol...However, they did create an important rule that is still true today: The music accompanying the movie/scene can dramatically enhance the action and create a mood for the audience.

Thank you, there's a lot to be said for taking it easy.
