This has been one crazy summer. And when I say "crazy", I do mean "crazy good", because as we all know "crazy" can be taken a few different ways.
It all started on June 5th, when the kids got out of school.
We had Georgie's birthday party the Friday after school let out. It was a really fun party, full of good times and good friends. We had his party at Pump It Up, which is an indoor inflatable party facility. It was a "Glow" party, which meant it was dark and there were glow-in-the-dark necklaces on all the kids. I think they all went home fully exhausted.
On June 8, the kids and I headed out east-bound in the early hours of the morning. We made great time, and had planned to meet up with our friends Misha and John in the Kansas City area, but due to heavy rains and a bit of phone tag, we managed to miss our connection. We ended up somewhere on the east side of Kansas City in a tiny little town in rural Missouri. The hotel was cheap, the pool was fine, and we had a relaxing evening. We headed out in the morning, hoping to make it the next day to Lexington, KY. After an uneventful day, we did make it to our destination and were able to meet up with some good friends Carol and Gary that evening. It was great to reconnect with them and see them after so many years. We took off in the morning headed for Centreville, VA to see my very good friends Kathy and Jeff. Made it without issue there, and Kathy and I went to see "Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage" that evening, reliving our youth and enjoying reliving a bit of our friendship over the years.
The next evening we headed to Annapolis, to stay with our friends Steve and Andrea, and also to pick up George from BWI airport, where he was flying in to stay for about 2 weeks. Our kids were able to pick up right where they left off as friends, and enjoyed their company so very much! The next day we were able to spend the day on the Severn River/Chesapeake Bay with Steve and Andrea on their boat, and get together with the Butlers that evening where we got some great portraits of all of our kids together again (in matching outfits no less!). Sunday morning we went back to Centreville for Kathy and Jeff's daughter Katie's birthday party, which was a blast, and then headed back to Annapolis for the night. Monday we all slept in (which felt GREAT), and left Annapolis for Fredericksburg, stopping briefly by a few museums in DC on our way. Got to Fredericksburg, where my sister Lori lives with her family, along with my mother. We were able to spend some time hanging out with them, and it was so nice to be with my family again. We also went up to Northern VA (to Capital City Brewing Company) one evening and hung out with some friends I hadn't seen in YEARS. It was so very great to see Yousif, Larry, Robin, Michelle, Ross, and Gregg. And hey, $2 pint night rules!
