A short little something that I wrote for a contest hosted by ff.net user 'Fly Like A Blueberry Pie'. It placed third, though it wasn't an especially big contest. ^.^ It's the only fic I've ever submited to a contest

No child can be left by a parent (sometimes only long enough to go get milk at the store)without feeling resentment, and as time passes, the resentment builds.
Will had to have been carrying an incredible burden of disappointment and disgust, and this could hardly have helped matters. In AWE, it seemed Will was awfully quick to forgive Bill, but children do that on a daily basis all the time.
It's a visceral and heart-wrenching piece...and you deserve any and all accolades that come your way.
Tis good to know that pieces of writing can sometimes actually stand the test of time. I was rather fond of that piece... so, again thankee.
Ah, but the question would be, children do it, but does Will still consider himself his father's child, or does he think of him in terms of man-to-man? The answer would undoubtably change the time of forgiveness.
There is a part of us that is always the child, looking for the parent--and the love that would follow.
No doubt, that would be a large part of the struggle within Will--that plus later (post-AWE) when he becomes the keeper of his father (as in captain and crew).
Yes, it would. Funny thing about AWE - out of the mess they made of the characters, only Will and Barbossa could I see actually being involved in something like that, as they were played.
*g* Thanks. I'm gonna stick up some REALLY OLD stuff in wee bit here- it makes me laugh every time I read it because it's pre-Norrington love (think, 2004). Hilariously awful, really.
