Mother's Day Fic - The Dancing Girl

May 11, 2008 15:38

I wrote this months ago. So long ago, in fact, that I don't remember exactly when (although, that just means before December, basically. xP). I wrote it, looked it over, and knew exactly what to post it for. Mother's Day. So it's sat, aging, on my laptop's hardrive. ^^ Hopefully it's like wine - better with age. (Hah to the cheesiness. ... And the ( Read more... )

This is so haunting, so beautiful! I love it.

Words escape me, I am sorry. Wonderful look at motherhood, and what it entails. Thank you!

Oh, thank you!

No matter, what you said suffices quite enough. ^^ Glad you ... (liked might not be the proper term, here) it!

It's hard to decide who to feel sorriest for.

Poor James, once again. The man got almost no breaks at all!

No, he didn't. Poor fellow. xP

I guess I want to say 'thank-you', since that was my intent but it doesn't seem right, somehow... ^^

Good to see you out and about!

This is a haunting examination of the perils of motherhood in those times, putting under a microscope (in so few words) the fragile existence of women. It was not a time for the faint of heart. Women were completely dependent on men, doomed to a life of degradation... or death, without the protection of one.

It's not necessarily the background I would have imagined for James, and yet I don't question any of it.

Grand, lass! Just grand!

Is it? Oh good. ^^

Yes, yes, I suppose it is. ^^ It wasn't really in my mind when I was writing it, but you're quite right. *shrugs* Goes to show what a habit of historical accuracy plus the want for angst can produce.

Oh, well, I suppose that's good then, eh? xD Actually, its not my usual type of backstory for him, either, but it was just too fascinating not to write. ^^

*bows* Thank-you, m'dear!

This is beautifully heartbreaking. And really perfect for Mother's Day. James's regret at the end had me tearing up.

I like this depiction of his childhood, too. But then I am a sucker for some good angst. ;) And this is excellent, first-class angst.

Aww... thanks. ^^ This was actually heart-rending to write - I've reread many times, and almost every time I teared up as well. Which is quite something. But you know how it is - I never knew if I was just reading what I wanted to say into it. So I guess its a good thing that you did.

Is it perfect for Mother's Day? xP I must say, I was having doubts.

Hah! Thank you muchly! Because I know that you certainly are one to measure angst, as well - if what you write is anything to go by. ;D
