Warning--wheels are addictive. I have a double-drive Kromski Polonaise that I hand-finished (in related news, people at work no longer look at me funny when I am doing things with wood and sandpaper outside on the steps) and I love it. I have an Ashford Traveler that I now use mostly for plying, and I have been informed that we have no more room for any more wheels. Which makes me sad, but I have no idea where I'd put a great wheel.
I have some alpaca that got haphazardly dyed with cochineal but I haven't actually tried spinning it yet.
The thing I have found for the hands is Thermoskin arthritis gloves. I have fibromyalgia and recurring tendinitis in my hands and wrists, and the thermoskins are *wonderful*. Or the customizable support gloves from Occumitts, which aren't textured and thus fiber is less apt to stick to them.
