I'll be spending the second week of August on a pilgrimage to Sturgis, SD to attend the nation's largest motorcycle rally (on the order of 500,000 peeps). My wonderful father and sister will meet me there. Time to dust off the ol' chaps.

what do you do once you get there? it seems like motorcycles are more for going places than for being in a place.

correct. Much of it is about the journey. But there are concerts every night and bike shows and stuff as far as official events go. I think the unofficial parts of the event are as just as much of it, tho. Just the ridiculousness that naturally results from 500,000 bikers landing in a town of population 6,000. Sturgis is known for women-folk there freeing themselves from the confines of their (upper body) clothing, for instance. Bikers are just neat.

The chick I worked with last summer went to Sturgis. I had to show her how to work itunes the week before so she could dl music to put on a CD for the ride out there. Be careful on those mountain roads, young man! It's not that I don't trust you, I just don't trust the other people on the road!

There are mountains between Appleton and SD?

haha, no, but perhaps between Chicago and SD??
No, now that you question my geography skills, I do doubt the validity of her calling them "mountain" roads. Perhaps she meant hilly? I dunno, she was kinda a freak about "unsafe" things. Makes you wonder why she rode to Sturgis on a motorcycle.
