This is an excellent point. I think I'll judge the situation depending on the patient. I like to work to it. The older stuff helps me concentrate but my foot starts tapping from time to time. I usually stick to classical, as I figure everyone likes it, and if they don't well then they're uncouth. Good background noise to help one focus.
Of course, you're also getting this opinion from someone who has suddenly rediscovered how enjoyable going to the dentist can be because her old dentist's son has taken over the practice. Eye candy trumps elevator music every time.
