Walmart in Hohenwald is evil.

Our Walmart here in Hohenwald, TN has a huge sign at the beginning of the produce section declaring that they support local farmers. The sign even has a lovely picture of a nice couple who own a farm one county over. Despite the sign, we have looked and looked and can't find a single item of produce that actually came from that farm. We bought a ( Read more... )

Well, at least it wasn't from California. It probably never spent any time on an airplane or ocean-faring vessel. Sorry, but that's the only bright spot I have for this.

Our Wal-Mart doesn't get enough of my attention to compare, but we have at least 4 sizable weekly farmer's markets in this town of 100,000 people: one at the courthouse, one at the local grocer (though not *every* weekend), one at the old Steele's on Drake & Shields, and one near the ACE Hardware on Harmony.

Unfortunately, Walmart put one of the two grocery stores out of business. We discussed wether or not we should go there for what we want. We decided that it was better than driving an hour to another grocery store when our other very small store (Locally owned) doesn't have what we want.

This does not surprise me at all. The current attitude of Corporate America is, "Say whatever best serves your purposes, whether it's true or not. The people who never watch anything but Fox News will believe you, and no one else matters anyhow."
