the story of my life

Sep 11, 2006 21:29

Earlier today I realized I had received a poke from mesembria (yo, mesembria), so here is my update.

I am liking my life: busy, exhausted, but psyched am I. Today was my first real day of school in a long, long time. I am reading Aristophanes' Thesmophoriazusae with Dr. Suksi, the Apology with Dr. Brown and the Aeneid with our new guy, Matthew ( Read more... )

I believe you about the heartbreaking, you... you... you 'miserable little bitch.'

Thanks for the update.

And no, I did not use an emoticon in the comment I just made, since I assume that you will know that one is intended. But which emoticon, precisely? I leave you to wonder.

Ooh, you woman of mystery, you! I'll try not to let it get to me.

I acquired a couple of beautiful cats: the mother is tabby and she is called Nebris [...] However I have been thinking of renaming Nebris after Mrs. Gummage from David Copperfield because she keeps CRYING all the time, and I fancy she is saying "I am a lone, lorn creatur'"...)

Perhaps she is part Bengal? We initially thought our Madeleine was just a tabby, but her vocalizations gave her heritage away.

Hey, I think you're right! I know nothing about cat breeds, but Nebris' facial markings look like those of the probably-exemplary Bengal on the Bengal website, and she has beautiful brownish-gold fur around her belly, like Madeleine's ( ... )

I too think that Nebris looks a little like a Bengal, though it didn't occur to me until I saw the photos posted by chalepa_ta_kala. Nebris has largish pointy ears.

Thanks for the update! I'm glad to hear things are going well (except the whole 9/11 stuff, but that's understandable)

I remember where I was too. I watched the whole thing on "Regis and Kelly" while eating breakfast, then went to Dr Suksi's Drama class. She had no idea what had happened at that point, and later apologized for being so cheerful that morning :)

I watched it at home, my first apartment, on Adelaide St., it was the first day I had cable... ever!

I went to Bonnie's Women in Antiquity class. When we got there, the lady who taught spanish before our class was still cleaning up her stuff and we told her. Then Bonnie came and asked us if we felt alright having class that day. I am pretty sure that we did.

Wow, have you ever supposed that maybe the gods don't want you to have cable?

I know I'm not the only one who didn't want to watch coverage for the entire week after the attacks, and I know that doesn't necessarily make me an evilhearted person. But I appreciate your anecdote. Thank you.

I attended the first two-hour WAG lecture today. Some of the kids are pretty smart! Bonnie gave them a couple of minutes to think about whether women are still perceived as comparatively "wild" (like Artemis, etc.) in our culture, and one girl pointed out that men (these days) are statistically more liable to do damage to their bodies (for example by participating in "extreme" sports), have a shorter life expectancy, and have to pay more for car insurance. Then she pointed out that Girls Gone Wild videos fetch a pretty penny because women are still conditioned to be "good", and men can get away with more "wild" behaviour. I am happy to see that some Western undergraduates know how to think.

How are you liking Toronto?

You're a good writer.

Thank you, so are you! I think the secret to good writing is consciously bad (or creative -- not to be confused with generative) grammar. Also, reading widely.
