Disclaimer: I don't own the characters, but the plot is my own.

They've been rushing through life almost automatically. Hardly a day has gone by in the past year that they haven't been trying to get somewhere or do something or meet someone yesterday. It's been crisis after crisis, event after mind numbing event.

So when the time comes that they *don't* have any pressing important and boring work to do, it's almost a shock. No more riding to the hunterlands searching for a rogue preist? No more messages to dignitaries, no more brown nosing nobles or dodging wedding invites or averting potential blood fueds? Whatever will they do with themselves if they have nothing to do?

Go slow apparently. Figure out what is actually going on, who they are to each other, what they want and need to make this friendship last. Seifer takes teh leisure time to work out his frustrations with good sparring matches and cheap women. Snow uses the time to think, to learn, to adjust to life without a collar around his neck.

Pretty soon their vacation is over and their moving again, riding out to the mountains as glorified errand boys of the Temples and Church, trying to stay one step ahead of dead.

It seems, at least when they stop to think about this intangible bond between them, that to go fast, they have to go slow.
