Thanksgiving with kids

My sister and her family are flying in for Thanksgiving weekend, which means sharing a house with and entertaining an energetic, precocious 4.5 yr old and a 9 mo old. I ask my friends for advice/help ( Read more... )

There's camp shoot-me at the MOA. Since there's no charge for admission, the parents can just follow him while he goes on the kiddie rides. There's also a few apple orchards outside of town where he can go on hay rides and pick apples.

Failing that, there's always animal tranquilizers. That's my preferred method of dealing with "precocious" children.

Can't help you with the car seat, tho. Sorry.

There are several good all-for-children bookstores in the area, which might make a nice day-trip cause they're full of toys and afterwards you could hit a kid's toy store or something, which while commercial would be fun and cheaper than tickets for four to the children's museum no matter what you're buying. (e.g. Red Balloon bookstore in St. Paul, which also hosts events for children: I got these two listings off their website ( ... )

I'll check on the Children's museum tix (though I can see Thanksgiving weekend as being a busy time for those), and a bookstore trip could be good. Unfortunately, they're not around for any Wednesdays.
