Vide-oh no!

At first I was indifferent-to-mildly-excited about video to Flickr. I watched one on one of my contacts' pages as soon as it was announced (said contact was a beta tester, so had a vid available as soon as it went live). It was a good video, so that helped, and I actually like change, unlike many of the people reacting badly to the addition of ( Read more... )

i'm kind of bummed about the addition of video, frankly. i hope this doesn't completely tank the awesomeness of flickr. i'm just getting into visiting/using it again after a bit of a hiatus.

Any word on whether this change will affect the cost of a pro account? That's my only concern; I plan to pretty much ignore the video function, but I don't have a problem with flickr adding it to its services--unless I have to pay for it even if I don't use it.

You pretty much articulate why I want to embrace it, but also hold it at arms length. I've noticed the little UI nits, as well, such as the URLs still being flickr.com/photos/username/xxxxxxx -- eek. Flickr video feels like of like the clone of Youtube for people who already paid for a Flickr Pro account, have a cute little Flip camera, and wouldn't dream of joining Youtube because the level of discourse is so low.

Then again, I get to see Merlin being ridiculous and my friend Steph Goralnick's amazing time lapse photos being turned into video. But also really silly clips of cute puppies and the like, even if they're really well done (like Heather Champ's).
