Answers to your questions (from my point of view) No, you're not nuts. Although you may not be able to answer that question until the middle or end of your run.
If it's your first run and you haven't trained hard, I would just set a goal of finishing, but yes, it is totally possible. YOU CAN DO IT! (That's my inner cheerleader.)
Um, addicted....well, after a great run, yes, you can become addicted. After a really really bad run, it's hard to put the shoes back on.
Happy Training. I haven't decided if I'm doing to do any runs this year, but last year I did the Red Dress Run for Women and the Niantic Bay 5k.
I'm doing the whole couch-to-5k training thing so that should help as well. I did my first session last night and felt good. We'll see how long that lasts though :)
