*waves* So what did you reckon to the Goblin Emperor? I loved it, but I'm a huge Sarah Monette fan.
I read an excellent series of crime novels this last year, and shall have to dig out the name of the author, maybe try to cram it into my end-of-year meme, or something!
I enjoyed it a lot, and mean to reread it, but while loving the world and character building, couldn't help feeling a slight sense of anticlimax as if key parts of the plot took place offscreen. It's on the reread list once I catch up with the reading pile. APF has read it about three times, though! I love how Sarah Monette writes.
A lot fewer than I wanted to! I would have been ashamed if I weren't counting each monthly PDF of Alternity as a novel (which I reckon they were, wordcount-wise).
Heh. This is where my legendary ability to forget plots comes in, particularly as it's nearly 2 years ago that I read it. Very convenient when stuck with only a pile of Agatha Christies to read, as I can read them again with equal enjoyment (except possibly Murder on the Orient Express). What I liked about the first one especially was the space station as a setting for a rather noir mystery with Miller as the gumshoe. That element is missing from the later ones.
The Paying Guests is very Sarah Waters. I was rather stressed when I read it so my memories of it are overshadowed by the other stuff.
