a by no means exhaustive list of favorite fic

Jul 13, 2011 23:48

So chaila43 suggested we should post awesome things in July, and I asked if anyone had suggestions for awesome things to post, and she came back with a request for discussion of favorite fanworks. This struck me as an excellent idea, because although I make recs from time to time, an all-time favorites list would look a bit different, I think--in part ( Read more... )

farscape, sg-1, alias, bsg, fic rec, tscc, doctor who, x-files, queen's thief, do i really need a judging amy tag?

Ooooh, thank you, what a wonderful idea - the Queen Attolia rec in particular is something I will have to check out when I have time. ♥

There are a number of really great (mostly Yuletide-originated) Queen's Thief stories on AO3, including a couple of others that could easily have made this list, but yeah, there's something about the characterization in that one that makes me go all weak in the knees for Attolia. When she met the Thief of Eddis who walked unhindered through her walls and left his fingerprints upon them, when she heard him lie and heard him plead and when she chopped off his hand so that he would never forget what he'd done to her, she felt the click of a lock released inside her and she knew: her love was nothing so pleasant. Etc. :)

Also Daniel/Janet and much-beloved is anr's Slow Burn, which fills in the blanks from the episode "2010."

YES! It doesn't matter what show I'm currently mainlining, every time I read this fic, I'm left gutted and mourning for my beloved ship.

*resists the temptation to reread it this morning because crying before work always leads to those awkward questions.*

It's definitely a good one! "2010" is one of my favorite episodes anyway, and as far as I'm concerned, anr's version of events totally happened. *wibbles*

What an absolutely lovely idea! And a few stories that I might have to go read or reread . . . :)

I am especially glad, of course, that Truths Half Told is something you can still enjoy! It's always good to know that stories like that one hold up over time--and I will admit that I utterly adore reading through the comment threads. You never know who you'll meet on the Internet! *hugs*

Glad to be of service!

I do confess that I sort of have to skim over some of the slightly shippier bits of "Truths Half Told," but I will always love the way you write Laura in that story: diplomatic but unapologetic, entire conversations happening in the way she holds her pinky finger.

What a wonderful idea for a post. I agree, an all-time favorites list would look different, especially if I included all of the fandoms in which I've read fic.

Of course, even as I was posting this, I realized I had left out a lot of fandoms for which I've read fic but not ever been "in" the fandom. A couple of those did get in--Judging Amy and Queen's Thief--but there are lots more possibilities. Ah well! :)

The Queen of Attolia rec was such a welcome part of my afternoon. (And of course thank you for the mention of Blue Eyes:)

So glad you enjoyed that story! There are a number of Queen's Thief stories at AO3 that I like a lot (most of them Yuletide products, I think), but that's my favorite, at least most of the time.
