Miss Clearwater, Pomfrey will not be administering sleeping potions or the like. Imagine if the Death Eaters were to break into the school while they were under the influence and we had to try and rouse them. Awake, frightened students can run to safety better than students who have been giving sleeping potions. Goodness girl, and I thought that you were smart.

Professor, I understand your concern, and that is why I never actually mentioned sleeping potions.

I was referring to the fact that Madam Pomfrey is, as you know, highly skilled at calming distressed students without resorting to something as stupefying as a potion or spell.

Having known this from personal experience, and knowing that spelled or drugged students would not be of benefit to anyone, Madam Pomfrey herself sent word down that she would do her best to help get the students to sleep using psychological techniques so that they could get as much rest as possible, without being too asleep to rouse in the event of an emergency.
