Yeah, i'm not sure how the original was, but my roommate insists that it was crap. I thought that the new one followed the stereotypical bad horror movie blueprint... but wasn't as bad as a movie like Alone in the Dark. The blueprint being:
-5 minutes of historical mumble trying to explain why everything is going on
-15-20 minutes of semi-corny storyline which usually involves some small event that is suppose to be suspensful but isn't really too much
-A random sex scene
-Followed by a hour or more of some more so-so storyline with scenes that make you jump, not get scared
-And an ending that makes you go "huh, what the fuck just happened?"

But Saw 2 is coming out this weekend... that will be good I think. :)
