Maintaining the Greek language and culture was one of my Parents' highest priorities when we were born. Their plan to do so was to use Greek in the home, to visit the "motherland" for long stretches of time whenever possible, and to acquire as much material that was written in Greek as possible (mostly comic books). Mom was a stay at home mom, so she took the further step of giving us "Greek lessons" in addition to school, so that we'd know how to read and write the mother tongue

what's with this "best mom" thing? don't put that kind of pressure on yourself. you have enough to do providing sarah with the basics: food, clean diapers, and lots of hugs & kisses. if you do that everything will be all right. of course, part of that is letting her learn to be by herself every once in a while, even if she cries. babies cry for different reasons: hunger, etc. sometimes it's just to get your attention. that's when you have to be strong (i know from experience it's hard) and help sarah learn to be strong. spoiled kids never grow up thinking they had the "best" mom or dad. they always think they deserved something more. as to language, i wish jeannette & i had done what george's parents did. nick & brendan did ok in nicaragua but i often cringed at their spanish.

If you were only 1/4 of the best mom you could possibly be, I think you'd still be better than most:) Just do the best you can and enjoy watching Sarah grow.

Is this the book club with Laura and Elena? I finally finished Anna K. So I may want to jump in on the next book.
