Yay for finally a post, and a nice meaty long one at that.

Boo for once again making me feel like a sad little hippie loser. "I finally stopped pussy footing around my future plans," she says, and she can't even legally drink yet.

Meanwhile, when I grow up, I want to like, do something, like, fun, or something.

Sorry about the books, but hearty congrats on NPR. I knew you'd do that sooner or later.

I'm certain you do, but for the record, you do realize that being an English professor is choosing to subject yourself daily to an irredeemably screwed up system full of kids who don't and never will give a damn what you have to offer because they've learned not to learn from the time they could think, right? That is the way it is, and gems like yourself come along not nearly enough to make the rest worth it, unless you have some other motivation I simply don't understand.

Yes, and I knew you would say all of that, and I suppose it's the best possible perspective for you to have, because obviously there have to be people who want to teach, and it's probably a positive thing for the Shebas to outweigh the Barbaras (have you seen Notes on a Scandal? It's so lovely ( ... )
